Lumbar Problems Or Low Back Strain

How do lumbar problems occur? They happen when the ligaments in the lower back get detached from the points where they are attached. These bands of tissue are what hold the bones together. Lumbar problems can also occur when the muscles of the back are overstretched. It could be a sprain or a strain – whatever it is, lumbar problems can mean a lot of pain.

Back pain is a common enough problem all over the world ands everyone has experienced it at some point of time or the other. If you suffer from it, you need to see a doctor because the reasons for that back pain could be many. You need expert advice to tell you whether your back pain is just a result of bad posture or whether it is something more serious. A muscle or ligament problem could result in constant pain that gets progressively worse and should be attended to.

How do you know that you could have lumbar problems? You could have spasms in the lower back or a band of pain in the same area. The pain usually gets worse when you are up and about doing something and gets better when you lie down and rest. Sometimes, the pain gets bad enough for you to have to stay in bed for a couple of days and in most cases, a month’s rest puts everything back to normal.

However, if you don’t rest it enough so whatever is injured heals, you could have recurring lumbar problems. It could be that you get up and get to work before you should or that the activity you are engaged in isn’t conducive to lumbar problems. Stretching your lower back too much or lifting weights might just put things back to being as bad as they were so you have to be careful. Sudden movements and getting the back into unusual postures can also contribute to lumbar problems.

What are the triggers that set this off? It could be stress, it could be over exercising or overstretching, it could even be smoking or being overweight and it could be poor posture and being careless about lifting weights. If you have a problem, you need to see a doctor or a specialist and start back strengthening exercises. Sportsmen tend to suffer from this problem especially if they are participating in highly competitive games and the one sport that has it most of all is gymnastics where the body has to be stretched to its utmost.

If your back is in constant pain, you need to seek medical attention because it could be serious. This should also be the case if you tend to lose bladder and bowel control when you have a backache. Just pain in the lower back also needs a doctor’s attention because all your movements and activities need your back and you need to keep it in good condition. In this case, you can’t just pop pain killers and continue with what you are doing because you will just be worsening things. You need to rest it so it can heal.

We could be sisters. Kween, I fell in 2000 10 feet. Fractured my L-1, was sent home with a broken back and then two days with no more time off, I had to sit 8 hours at a medical insurance co. (NO MERCY). I figured it out with the help of a good MD who ordered an MRI, he then sent me to a chiropractor, he is the one who saw the break that the others MD;s did not. Well, I have, because of this trauma and being unable to sit, stand, or walk much with out excrutiating pain from what you have been on disability for 4 years. The new MRI says I have multiple Spondylosis and Meyalopathy. The facets where the bones meet are malpositioned, even though I have tried chiropractic, tons of physicial therapy, bath soaks for the muscles, messages and years of acupuncture.
What I am saying is I decided to see an Osteopath in a Spinal Institue, rather than a neurosurgeon or orthopaedic surgeon. The reason is this: They are Md’s as well, they are trained in all facets of spine care. I just recieved my second round of facet injections ( steroids mixed with anesthesia like:lidocain) he put me to sleep and with an xray (flouroscopic) machine on your back, he injects in the areas surround  the nerves with this combination. OMG. I have felt great relief in most of the areas. Still have trouble with one spot and I will drill him tomorrow. He wants to do a Radio frequency ablation(Rhizotomy) on some of the joint nerves, and I am freaked abou this. I was wondering if anyone has had a bad experience with this? I do hope you the best. Fibro is terrible, I know, but mine has ebated a little since I do not live in a stressfull environment any longer. Fibro people need peace, and peace of mind. Do your own therapies. Get hot and cold packs, a yoga ball to stretch on, warm epsom salt baths might help alot. It works for me. Remember get copies of your x-rays, MRI’s or whatever test before you leave the office, or you might have to pay for them later. That should not be the case but I have experienced it with hopsitals.Bless you. Take care of yourself.
( GOD I hope you get to read this)

i also had a nero-stimulator put in back in 2005 for lower back and both hips.knees for both legs, they have given me more then 25 faset injections over the last 5 or 6 yrs- 3 of them just 6 weeks ago then an epadumal just 2 weeks ago and nothing has worked even a little bit. i’ve been on all the meds that they can think off even 80mg oxycotins 4x a day along with 40mg roxicodones 4x aday along with soma, zanaflex all at the same time over the past 5 yrs and finley got tired of all the pills since they like the stimulator did nothing from day one. just seen a nerologist today and he want to put me on lirycia, i told him the pain center had already had me on it before and did nothing for the pain, but he put me on it any how. i feel for you if all your doctors are like mine and i have had many second opions. if they had to do like most people do and not get paid for their guess work then maybe then more would care and stop the pills. i stopped mine myself and stil feel the same, of corase they didnt want me to stop but if it does nothing why do they keep the same treatment up must be the money. i sure hope you find some kind of releif ,i have had to give up my harley.23 t-bucket,cant walk much aways falling down and cant sit very long. i’m still going to keep looking i know theres a doctor out there  who can help, just hope i find them soon, will keep you in my prayers. thanks wayne
