Dexedrine is the brand name of the generic drug Dextroamphetamine manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline Corporation in tablets with strengths of 5 mg and 10 mg. This prescription drug is used to treat ADHD or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorders well as ADD where there is no hyperactivity present. It is referred to as a psychostimulant drug and belongs to the amphetamine class of drugs.

Indications

This drug is prescribed when there is a need for focus and not to feel drowsy all the time. ADD and ADHD patients can benefit a lot from this drug because it can be very potent and bring about changes very quickly. They feel a lot more attentive and not as distracted as they used to do and they are able to concentrate for longer spells. It also goes a long way in stabilizing the emotions. Side Effects

These drugs should also not be used as pick-me-ups or as a means of weight control. Children under six years of age should be prescribed this drug with extreme caution. Contraindications

Any severe cardiovascular disease will contraindicate this drug. Other ailments or conditions that mean you have to avoid this will be hyperthyroidism, severe hypertension or glaucoma.
